Some email alerts are better than others. This morning, I got the one I’ve been crossing my fingers about for the last year.
My amazing friend, Lisa Steadman (aka The Relationship Journalist), has written the ultimate breakup survivor guide - It’s a BreakUP, Not a BreakDOWN - and it’s finally available on Amazon.com and in bookstores near you!
But wait! There’s more…
In fact, I’ll let Lisa tell you herself:
On Monday, April 30 I will be appearing on iVillage Live in two segments talking about 1. recent celebrity breakups and 2. how to heal and move on after a divorce. The show reaches hundreds of thousands of viewers and I believe it’s the perfect time for the besteller strategy. Here’s where you come in.
Between 10 a.m. Monday, April 30 and 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, I invite you to buy my book online or purchase the book at your local bookstore.
By all of us (myself included!) purchasing the book at the same time within a 24 hour period, along with all those iVillage viewers who may be going through a breakup of their very own, we greatly increase my book’s chances of climbing the Amazon sales rank and moving up the bestseller charts.
If we break the Top 100 on Amazon, we win. If we don’t, we still win because people are still buying copies of my book, helping my sales rank climb and ultimately lending to my book’s success.
Here’s the God’s honest truth. I love my book. I’m so proud of it. Not just because I wrote it but because of its potential to help those going through a breakup to wake up, heal, and move on. I wrote it because I lived it and the other side of a bad breakup is beautiful, amazing, and so worth the initial pain! We’ve all been there, right? (The answer’s yes)
Are you with me? I hope so! Here are those dates again…
Between 10 a.m. Monday, April 30 and 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, I invite you to buy my book online or purchase the book at your local bookstore.
And be sure to tune in to iVillage Live on Monday to watch me on the show. It’s going to be lots of fun! One last thing - and it’s very exciting! BreakupChronicles.com has been redesigned and launched as a blog within my new site LisaSteadman.com . The blog is now easier to update which means more content on a daily basis for you! From breakup stories to advice to book news and more,
I hope you’ll enjoy the new and improved BreakupChronicles.com . (The kinks are still being ironed out. More to come about the new site soon…) And of course, if you don’t buy the book during the 24 hour window, you may still purchase it at any time. Thanks for your ongoing support. I couldn’t have come this far without all of you!
xoxo,
Lisa

Thanks in advance for helping to make this super-talented go-getter’s dreams come true. I blogged about Lisa back in November as an exceptional example of how to “A-Ha Yourself!” Now, we get to see Lisa’s extraordinary journey continue to unfold…and hopefully be a part of the booming success.
P.S. Oh, by the way, Lisa’s “Help Make My Book a Bestseller!” strategy here is awesome. I’ve seen it work wonders with some of the big-gun marketing folks like Michael Port, Stephanie Frank, and Jack Canfield, to name a few. If you’ve got your own book coming out anytime soon, you could learn a thing or two from this savvy businesswoman! Please, support Lisa, so we can all see where she goes and what she does next!

A New Hampshire small biz success story, launched by an epiphany following a near-death experience…two gutzy chicks…6000% growth in the first year…bold messaging on comfy, cozy, sun-washed tees and sweatshirts…PLUS a smiling Alec Baldwin…
I LIVE FOR STORIES LIKE THIS!
Meet Alyson Bruu and Kristine Fichera, founders of Liv’n Out Loud! Clothing Company Inc.
I found out about their story and biz success in this article on NH.com, from where this explanatory excerpt hails:
“We’re not just a clothing company,” said Bruu, a marketing and public relations professional and owner of December Marketing. “We’re promoting a lifestyle. We’re getting people to look at their own humanity and ask themselves, ‘Am I living the life I’m meant to live?’ It’s like we’re igniting these epiphanies.”
Their own “aha moment” came after Alyson nearly bled to death after simple surgery to remove an ovary. The Big Life questions started pouring in: “Did I live a meaningful life? Did I make a difference? Was I true to myself in life?”
The conclusion to each of these questions was “No.” So the six-fig salary was ditched, and a T-shirt company was born. Bold insight PLUS joy-filled action. Ain’t it purty, tho’?
Now, the co-owners boast huge growth, international attention, and an ever-broadening fan base - all in less than two short years! - because of regular press coverage and successful viral marketing efforts. (Getting some good Hollywood exposure hasn’t hurt, either.) Cancer survivors find comfort and strength in their clothing AND powerful mini-anthems:
- “Hey Cancer…You Picked the Wrong Broad!”
- “Defy mediocrity”
- “Because I Can”
- “Mine Are Brass”
- Bring It On!”
Congratulations, ladies. Excellent messaging. Stellar mission. Bold moves. You are fab examples of how to “A-Ha Yourself!”
Keep on truckin’!

You have an idea. A business. A passion. Something to say.
The question is: How important is this to you?
“Well, I have a website/blog/brochure/business card,” you say. And that’s a good thing. You should. They’re all part of your self-marketing efforts. They’re all virtually essential these days. You want to have your information retold, repackaged, and reinvented in various forms, to suit your audience’s content consumption preferences.
So why not take it a step further and turn your singular information, concept, strategy, philosophy, process, or knowledge into an eBook?
Make it interesting. Make it readable. Give it titles and subtitles, sidebars and sass.
Make it easy to download and email.
Share it with people, groups, websites, and associations that would find value in it, or be entertained by it. (Or preferably, both!)
More than anything, make it available…for FREE.
“But, I don’t have time to spend on creating and developing a FREE eBook?!!” you yelp. “Why the heck would I waste my time/energy/billable brain power on that?”
Well, don’t you already?
Don’t you already think about your own passions, ideas, business, systems, or solutions in a fairly obsessive way?
Wouldn’t you like a clean overview of your might and mission to hand off to prospects, fans, clients, consumers, strategic partners, website visitors, email recipients, and accidental tourists so they could sample your wares? Experience your voice and style? Scan over your offerings? Dig into your ideas? Benefit from your expert status?
Essentially, consume a premeditated, decently configured version of YOU?
What’s more, wouldn’t it be valuable to YOU to put your fleeting thoughts and down-the-rabbit-hole analyses into some semblance of order and refined context?
Hey - we’re talking a free eBook here. It doesn’t have to be a $20,000 project. Make it neat. Format it nicely. If you can get a designer to help it look good, that’s a plus, but if that’s not possible right now, let it go.
Most importantly - HAVE SOMEONE PROOFREAD IT so you don’t embarrass yourself, or worse, lose business because of grammar, spelling, or blatant nonsensical communication skills.
If you still don’t think it’s worth your while, check out what a free eBook did for marketing messiah Seth Godin. (Seth even has a simple “How-to” on the subject on a Squidoo lens, here, in addition to downloadable examples of his own free eBooks.)
Don’t make it harder than it is. If you’ve just got 10 pages, turn it into a Special Report or White Paper. You can always expand or add to it over time.
Bottom line: People can’t learn to know and love you - your products, services, passion, advice, know-how, brilliance, ideas, insights, offerings, deliverables, voice, style, personality, vision, business, unique promise of value, philosophies, etc. - if you don’t give them anything to know and love.
For a stellar example of a useful, informative FREE Special Report that generated more than $100,000 in new client revenue in less than two months and took about two weeks to create, check out the “The Secret to Making Your Business GO NUTS in 2007!” 18-pager we created with Acorn Creative. It’s really good stuff!!!

Ever hear of a guy named Sean D’Souza?
He’s the “Chief Brain Auditor” at www.PsychoTactics.com, and works his marketing magic out of New Zealand. I’ve been a subscriber to his newsletter for years, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys lots of flair, talent, personality, and kick-butt information on sales, copywriting, and marketing strategy.
This week’s article - Why Using Tentative Words Will Reduce Your Profits - is a fine example as any to showcase his practical know-how and infectious style. (And it also offers a simple tip that could increase your profits in a big way this year.)
Warning: Sean’s site is incredibly robust, fresh, fun, and addictive - ESPECIALLY for a biz-focused site. He knows how to communicate, in an “I’m your pal, mate! Let’s go chase a dingo, throw some shrimp on the bahhhbie, and drink Fosters till dawn!” kind of way. You can’t help but adore him. What’s more, I’ve had a few entertaining email exchanges with him over the years, and he’s as approachable and authentic as his style suggests.
In sum, Sean D’Souza is DEFINITELY an “A-Ha Yourself!” master. We can all learn a lot from his voice and verve.
G’day, mate - and happy marketing!

In 2007, one of the things I want to get better at is logging the “A-Has” I find out in the *real* world (whatever THAT is!). Cuz I DO come across them, often and always. I just don’t always have my handy-dandy blogging machine close by. (Cue melancholy violin solo.)
Anywho…
There’s this AMAZING business woman, Stacy Brice, and her natural penchant for “A-Ha-ing Herself” is downright humbling. Stacy is the brains, brawn, and dare I say, MOXIE, behind the incomparable AssistU - birthingplace of the finest Virtual Assistants on Earth.
She’s also methodically laying claim to one of the best and most underused words in the English language: Moxie. Ohhhh, but it’s a beautiful word! The definition on Dictionary.com hardly does it justice…
| 2. |
courage and aggressiveness; nerve. |
It’s bigger. It’s bolder. And Stacy knows this. Here’s HER definition:
Moxie. It’s an attitude; a way of being in the world that creates immense freedom. It’s where savvy, committed, smart and highly skilled meet spunky, shameless, gutsy, and brazen.
She’s got a blog called Virtual Moxie, and she’s offers Moxie Coaching to lucky female professionals who earn the privilege of her time and experience. (She’s also an active contributor to several others (including Virtualosophy and The Virtual Wire.)
Through her coaching, Stacy pursues her one-woman mission to make sure other smart, success-minded women get over the crippling Ms. Nice Gal thing and take pride in becoming “too big for their britches.” Not in an “I ate too much turkey on Thanksgiving” kind of way, but in work, life, and vision. I’ve been having some issues with claiming my mojo lately, so I really appreciate that kind of, well, moxie.
I call all this to your attention simply to demonstrate how powerful an “A-Ha!” - bold insight PLUS joy-filled action - can be. Stacy earns “Epiphanies, Inc. Posterchild” status with a simple sentence she shares on her www.MoxieCoach.com site:
Moxie Coaching was born, as so many of my adventures are, with a sudden spark followed by a flood (and I mean a flood) of creativity.
That’s it, people. That’s the whole game, the entire recipe, right there is a divine little sentence.
Sudden sparks may come and go, but the ones that get that wild OOMPH! of action being them? Oh, yeah. That’s the sweet spot, right there.
Good things are born.
Destinies are met.
The world becomes a better, more vibrant, more moxie-full place.

No doubt you have heard of the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game. It’s been around since ‘94. The premise is simple: You gather with friends, someone names an actor, and then you try to get to Kevin Bacon in six steps or less by association through other actors via the movies they’ve all been in - in as few steps as possible.
You may not be surprised to hear there are many websites devoted to it - even websites associated with major US educational institutions, like The University of Virginia’s “The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia” site.
However, if you go to the Oracle of Bacon site, you may be surprised that it typically takes fewer than THREE links (2.946, to be exact) to get from any actor in the history of Hollywood to Mr. Bacon.
You may be even more shocked to find out there are more than 1000 actors with a BETTER “Bacon Number” than Mr. Bacon himself.
“What the heck does this have to do with branding and marketing?” you ask?
- There are 1049 actors that are closer to the Center of the Hollywood Universe than Kevin Bacon, yet none of them have had millions of college students, suburbanites, and cinema buffs obsessed with the depth and scope of their acting careers.
- It’s possible that the thing you’ll be known best for will be entirely out of your hands, your fame and fate determined by three college students watching TV who are spontaneously inspired to obsess over you and what you’ve put out to the world…and then invite millions of other accidental evangelists to do the same.
Now, those who have played the Six Degrees game have a mix of amusement and reverence to a guy who they may have otherwise dismissed as “that dude who starred in Footloose.” I, personally, can’t think of even one movie featuring Rod Steiger, yet HE’S listed as the guy with the best Bacon Number (2.678695), and thus as the man who stands at THE center of the Hollywood universe.
So the lesson is as follows:
Sometimes all you have to do is be sure to put yourself out there often and consistently (or, “A-Ha Yourself!” - as we like to say), and the viral marketing pixies will do the rest.
In other words, you don’t have to be the best or most popular, you just have to be the brand or business that comes to mind when other people are yapping about your field or industry.
A very encouraging thought for the start of a new business year.

Jiggidy-jig and away we go! Look at how Office Max gets savvy & hip with FUN, ENTERTAINING content - riding the holiday spirit wave…
If you watch the clip, you may notice that the pic of me to the left (which was taken at my home a week ago, I reluctantly admit) is the same one that’s on the dancing elf. Easy personalization, fun, quick, and perfectly branded, through and through. Bravo, Office Max! Thanks for knowing it’s good for your business to fund stuff that makes us happy.
(If for some reason that link doesn’t work, or it’s got an expiration date, try your own at www.ElfYourself.com.)
Elfing yourself, it turns out, is a dynamite way to “A-Ha Yourself!”
Man - if artists, creatives, and programmers can develop and launch customizable animation like this in 2006, imagine what 2007 will bring…

There’s newsworthy stuff, like peace rallies. But alas, the average announcement of a peace rally can earn more eye rolls than enthusiasts.
THEN there are peace rallies piggybacking on REAL newsworthy items, like a call for a worldwide orgasm party!(Talk about multiple orgasms!)
I found this article on a great little forward-thinking site called www.LASpirit.com, which advocates holistic living in fresh and thought-provoking ways. Enjoy - and by all means, take part in this important global mission!
Two San Francisco peace activists have planned a massive peace demonstration for the Winter Solstice (the first day of winter, Friday, December 22, 2006), by urging everyone not to march in the streets, but stay home and have an orgasm while focusing on world peace. Donna Sheehan, 76, and Paul Reffell, 55, point out that the orgasm provides an incredible feeling of peace during and after. “Your mind is like a blank, like a meditative state,” says Reffell.
Their goal, they say, is to effect change in the energy field of the earth by way of a huge surge of human energy. The couple has cooked up other captivating media stunts. Sheehan, no relation to anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, organized 50 women in 2002, who stripped naked and spelled out the word “Peace,” spawning a min-movement called Baring Witness.
Sheehan and Reffell have studied evolutionary psychology and see war as mainly an outgrowth of men trying to impress potential mates. It’s a case of “my missile is bigger than your missile,” states Reffell. More details are available at www.globalorgasm.org.
