Ever fantasized about making MTV-like videos? Give Animoto a try. It costs absolutely zilch to make a fun li’l 30-second spot like the one we made below.
Think you need more than 30 seconds to flex your Spielbergian muscle? Drop a whopping $3 to create one full-length “music video” (perhaps an homage to your best friend, or some fun promotional piece for your business). If you really get bit by the vid-making bug, pick a package that best suits your needs and interests. (They’ve got affordable options for both personal and business purposes.)
And please don’t hesitate to let me know if you give it a whirl. I’d love to see your handiwork!

Happy New Year! I don’t know how you’re spending the second day of 2009, but so far, Allen and I have made whole-grain apple pancakes, played with race tracks, hit a spin class, picked up one of our son’s friends for a play date, and experimented with a cool web-based video creation tool called Animoto.
There are a ton of ways any business could make use of this tool, since it’s an easy, free (or low-cost) way to deliver your message, products, and services to your Ideal Audience.
Are you creative? Do you wish you had a way to showcase your wares, share your ideas, market your business, and appear hipper and savvier than you may feel in this tech-driven, visually-obsessed culture? Give their 30-second free version a try. Just upload a few images and/or text, pick a royalty-free soundtrack, and before you know it, you’ve got yourself a sweet li’l vid. (Check out the one we did below.)
It’s not perfect - I’m bummed the automated engine behind the program refused to squeeze in a few more images, but what do I want for free? - but I can see great potential and I’m excited by the possibilities.

Brushes with a lead generation guru, a high-level-mastermind participant, and an honest-to-goodness billionaire inform the top three takeaways Lani had from Day 2 of Ali Brown’s Online Success Blueprint Workshop. And despite what it looks like with the still image YouTube selected to represent the video, Lani is not doing her version of the Subway 5-Dollar Footlongs commercial.
(By the way, Ali will be offering video and audio recordings of the workshop sometime soon, so check out her website and get on her list to know as soon as it’s available. She usually limits the number of copies she makes available…)

If you ever want to borrow a book from us, expect to be put on camera.
That’s what Acorn Creative’s Chief Nut Kevin Skarritt learned when he dropped by to borrow our copy of Naked Conversations for his series of blogging webinars. We sat him down by the fire and, with Buddy the Awkward Dog chewing a dog toy in the background, grilled him for his top 3 social media predictions for 2009.
Want to learn more about portable profiles, media ROI, and which social networking site will be hopping next year? Just watch…

One of our teachers, Adam “The Marketing Mentor” Urbanski, likes to say that if something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly to start with.
Well, amen to that, but there is a bit of a corollary. As long as you’re doing it authentically, and you demonstrate that you’re going to get better as you go along, then yes, the sky’s the limit, so go for it!
And in that spirit, we’re proud to announce the first of our “A-Ha!” Video Quickies. Recorded with a cell phone (hey, it’s a start), you can’t read the sign Lani’s standing next to, so you need to know that it says “Summit,” and it has arrows on either side of it that are pointing in two different directions.
That’ll make Lani’s quick tip much clearer.
