YOUR PURPOSE. The most important mission you’ll pursue in this life, IF you’re willing to accept it.
For most of us, it’s a wily one. Sometimes fun and inspiring, often fist-shakingly frustrating, it is the dangling carrot at the end of the sentence:
“What should I do with my life?”
If you’re from the Carl Jung school of thought, the first thing you should do is PAY ATTENTION.
According to Jungian theory (and countless others), clues are literally everywhere, if you’re ready and willing to PAY ATTENTION.
Your childhood is a great place to start.
Who were you in your natural state, before you cared what others thought, and before others tried to impose their wills on you? What stirred your imagination? What games did you play? When did you feel happy and engaged and downright blissful? Spend some time recalling these memories, and you’ll increase the odds of seeing and feeling glimmers of your Life Purpose.
Open-minded, wonder-inspired curiosity is key.
Very few people are handed their Purpose on a silver platter at a young age. It’s a journey of DISCOVERY, and yes, of exploration into POSSIBILITY.
Patience is a companion you’ll need to invite along your journey, hopefully sooner rather than later. The sooner you embrace the role of Optimistic Detective, the easier and more enjoyable it’ll be.
Know there are answers to be had.
Know you are not immune to having a Purpose. You’ve got one. Period. Deny it all you want, but it’s the truth. If you’re determined to fight this point, you’re probably not the best candidate for traveling these 31 Days of Possibility, but hey – you do what you gotta do. Everyone’s welcome.
If and when you’re ready to acknowledge that YES, for sure, you know you have a Life Purpose and you’d really, really like to discover what it is, someday, somehow, then this is where that OBSERVATION WITHOUT JUDGMENT thing we discussed in Day 2 really gets some miles.
It’s a process. Your purpose reveals itself through experiences, and through your FEELINGS. Love, Joy, Happiness, Giddiness, Hope, Fulfillment…
A deep sense of Pride, Passion, Grace, Eternity, and of course, POSSIBILITY…
These are your Allies on your quest for your Purpose…
And they communicate with you through your HEART.
Turns out your heart isn’t just a pumpity-pump organ of blood, ventricles, and aortas. It’s got a mind all its own. In fact, scientifically speaking, the heart is literally 5,000 times more powerful than the brain in terms of its measurable magnetic field. (Five thousand more times!!!)
According to this article on MindfulMuscle.com:
“The nervous system within the heart (or “heart brain”) enables it to learn, remember, and make functional decisions independent of the brain’s cerebral cortex. Moreover, numerous experiments have demonstrated that the signals the heart continuously sends to the brain influence the function of higher brain centers involved in perception, cognition, and emotional processing.”
The thing is, you have to open up.
You have to believe.
You have to choose, time and time again, to play on the side of your infinite possibilities.
You have to trust the brilliant minds, thinkers, dreamers, and thought leaders who have come before you and spent their lives seeking, studying and learning about this thing called “PURPOSE.”
And most of all, you have to learn to trust YOU.
You have to learn to trust the truth of who you are.
The truth of your Purpose comes from within you.
This is not bunk. This is not hyperbole. This is not a trite, shallow heaping of overused platitude. This is the way it is.
We are energy. Truly!
We are energy, we are conduits, AND we are agents for action. We are heroes of our life stories, and we are the emancipators of our own destinies.
Of course if you’re like most of us, including me, you’re stubborn and you’ll insist on learning this on your own, the long way, the hard way.
Hey, that’s fine. The truth is, that’s really the only way to go. That’s the journey of DISCOVERY.
It’s this dance between skepticism and belief, experience and discovery, doubt and possibility, that anchors the truth of our own Life’s Purpose into our hearts, into our minds, and into our souls. It also gives us the strength, faith, and courage of our convictions to branch out, take chances, pursue our authentic paths, and become who we were born to be.
But how do you know when you’ve discovered your Purpose, or you’re living your Purpose, or you’re at least close to the path of your Purpose?
There’s no more drama in your decisions.
There’s a sense of peace, knowing, and unimaginable GRACE, especially if you’ve been spending years and decades (like I have) bouncing from thing to thing, always looking, always searching for answers and wondering what the heck you’re supposed to be doing with this precious life of yours.
That’s not to say roadblocks don’t come up, and everything’s a piece of cake. Heck no! But it IS to say that the more aligned you are with living and breathing your Purpose, the easier it is to let everything else that doesn’t align melt away and vanish from view.
Your Purpose isn’t necessarily one hard and fast thing, either. It’s a living organism that has the capacity to shift, evolve, expand, and fine-tune its frequency, just like you!
It’s real, though. It’s definitely real.
Flirt with stillness enough, check in with your heart and soul, follow the beautiful breadcrumbs of DISCOVERY and POSSIBILITY and sooner or later, you’ll know this to be true, too, if you don’t already.
Your Purpose is your Grand Life Adventure.
You can do this. I know you can. I believe in you. Now go on and discover your Purpose-fueled POSSIBILITIES!
